“Before the universe reaches its ultimate ideal state, it exists as a simulation, which inevitably contains bugs and glitches. Over a period of five years, the artist observed the world around him, seeking out and capturing errors hidden in plain sight. This series of photographs exposes the beta testing stage of existence, and the imperfections abundant within. Many of the images depict consequences of human actions or accidents, illuminating our part as cogs in the giant machine of existence that is forever hurling towards the unattainable state of flawlessness.”

The photo series documenting the devastating fire in the Borjomi Gorge in August 2017 that destroyed nearly 150 hectars of forest, encapsulates a captivating metamorphosis, transitioning from raw documentary shots to masterfully captured images of the fire's beauty and ferocity, as well as the aftermath of its devastation portrayed in an almost surreal cold dawn.
Within these images, the ashen trees undergo a profound transformation, evolving from mere victims into living witnesses—apostles of the fire's elemental force.
Through the lens of the photographer, the fire emerges not just as a destructive force but also as a mesmerizing display of nature's power and resilience. The juxtaposition of charred landscapes against the ethereal light of dawn evokes a sense of surrealism, inviting viewers to contemplate the duality of destruction and rebirth inherent in such natural phenomena.

The enigmatic metaphor of a pandemic, transmuted into an explosion of harmony and beauty, infuses Irma Sharikadze's photographs, taken in her home studio during the lockdown, with deep meaning. Nature, bestowing both life and death, envelops her subjects, almost dissolving their individuality, as it embraces and cradles them in its magnificence and its dread.
The artist's scrupulous attention to detail, her adept use of color and texture, and her masterful application of chiaroscuro make her work radiant and exceptional, leaving a lasting imprint in one's memory.

"My family’s photo archive was destroyed in a fire a long time ago. Only a few damaged, burnt, and torn photographs remained. These surviving images inspired my search for a new genre that would echo the emotional impact they had on me. I try to capture it in accidental portraits that I see every day.
When I browse through my old family album and touch the photographs, I feel extraordinary energy condensed in them. I always wanted to recreate this palpable, intimate experience in my photography.
This is why I print my shots under red light. The darkroom is the best place for this type of experimentation. In this process I am discovering a hidden, parallel world that is very dear to me, especially because we live in a digital era and in the deficiency of tangible photography."

In her portrait series of Nigerian expatriates in Georgia, Mariam Amurvelashvili explores the interaction between migrants and the unfamiliar environment they came to live in. The dim, murky lighting of almost lifeless everyday scenes, the static postures and nearly expressionless faces of the models contrast sharply with the vibrant colors of their attire and their personal belongings. This dissonance evokes a sensation of incongruity and estrangement, highlighting profound human and cultural levels of the experience of those living far away from their homeland.

Levan Kherkheulidze captures humans at their most vulnerable and shattered state, yet through his lens, he unveils a depth of sensitivity and tenderness that stands out against harsh, aggressive surroundings. The author portrays them as almost saintly figures, suspended in a kind of limbo. Despite enduring devastation and unspeakable horrors, they do not seek pity but evoke profound compassion, compelling us to recognize the inner light within each of them.
The photographer emerges as a stalker, navigating the border into a forbidden, mythical, and spiritual world that we can observe through his art.

"In 2020, I rented a working studio in Tbilisi's old city. While exploring the space, I discovered a strange door above the bathroom, with no ladder leading to it. After some effort, I managed to access this hidden area and discovered it to be a darkroom for developing photographs. The roof had caved in, leaving a pile of debris, and among the remnants, I found old developed negatives.
For the next two months, I dedicated my time exclusively to sifting through and cleaning up the clutter in search of preserved negatives. I managed to recover quite a few of them, although many were significantly damaged. I did my best to restore and straighten the negatives and then proceeded to scan them.
So here is the result, of which I think Time is a true co-author."

Ariali's photographs unfold as a modern iteration of the timeless 'Hero's journey,' a narrative archetype recurring from ancient epics like the Odyssey and Gilgamesh up to Peer Gynt and Luke Skywalker. While the traditional 'Hero's journey' often connotes grandiosity and monumentalism, Ariali's odyssey through lands and seas takes on a more introspective and fleeting quality, characterized by low exposure, delicate lines, and blurred forms.
The evolution from an active hero to a contemplative observer fosters a fluid sense of timeflow, inviting us to participate in this transformative passage through landscapes both physical and metaphorical.

“When I shoot with film, I finish my work as soon as it gets dark. Digital photography makes it possible to see things beyond the grasp of traditional film. These photos are taken at dusk, and I realized I could capture something that long fascinated me – the darkness, the ambiguity, and the unsettling fear of obscured vision. In the dreamlike twilight, even a harmless animal like a sheep can morph into a chimera.”
Balancing on the verge of the barely visible, Tinatin Kiguradze's Twilight book evokes our childhood dreams of ominous creatures hiding in the dark. Deep in our hearts, we all believe that spirits do exist. We dread to look at what’s lurking in the shadows, yet we are unable to divert our gaze, yearning to catch a glimpse. For a fleeting moment, it seems to us we beheld something magical and enchanting, only for the vision to dissolve into the dusk.

“There are objects around us which draw our attention and there are objects which do not. Once something captures our attention, we keep noticing it again. Our attitudes toward various subjects are always biased. The development of our personality is largely shaped by the stimuli in our environment. Visual information we perceive becomes embedded in our unconscious mind and surfaces in our behavioral traits. Consequently, recognizing these traits in our surroundings makes us biased.”
While this statement by Data Patatishvili holds a broad and general nature, it becomes significant when applied to his own photography. Within his works, there is a subtle yet uniquely individual shift in perception. This elusive quality lends his photographs a dream-like essence that defies easy definition.

In her "Invisible" series, Nata Sopromadze captures the most delicate essence of humans, particularly that of women, effectively revolutionizing the portrait genre. By avoiding the conventional frontal view that showcases the face and its expressions, she eliminates any hint of sentimentality, boldly unveiling the raw reality of individuals who are rendered invisible within her own environment and in society at large. The use of Polaroid, a medium inherently ephemeral in its nature, further accentuates this concept, while the static postures and ornate costume patterns add a distinct cinematic dynamism to the work.

Guram Tsibakhashvili's photographs of useless and often unrecognizable or strange objects act as a medium between the viewer and the unseen, forgotten individuals who stand behind these objects. While, at first glance, his work is just a matter-of-fact documentation of a mundane reality, his meticulous and insistent attention to details and textures, illuminated by a soft, diffused light, gives rise to a magic form of art, akin to da Vinci and his sfumato technique.
The artist freezes time and generates a momentum that propels the viewer into a metaphysical journey, drawing them into this unique poetic experience.
